Fluoride industry: Seize opportunities and shift towards high-end development as soon as possible

On April 19th, a high-end fluorine material development and application seminar organized by the China Fluorosilicon Organic Materials Industry Association was held in Zigong. The processing, molding, and modification technologies of high-performance fluorine membrane materials, precious metal catalytic synthesis of fluorine containing polymers, clean production technology of polytetrafluoroethylene resin, modification technology of fluorine containing polymer materials, and production of fluorine containing fine chemicals based on hexafluoropropylene, among other cutting-edge fluorine material related technologies in China, have been unveiled, demonstrating the broad development potential of fluorine materials in high-end application fields such as photoresists, semiconductors, and proton exchange membranes.

"We need to promote the transformation of high-end fluorine materials from made in China to created in China, the transformation of Chinese speed to Chinese quality, and the transformation of Chinese products to Chinese brands." The team led by Shen Jiabin, a researcher at the Institute of Polymer Research at Sichuan University, has developed a product using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) multi-layer composite technology, which can have over 2000 micro/nano layered embryonic layers and a structured structure, making it the first in China. He said, "Polymer forming is not a simple process of incoming materials processing, but a scientific design and implementation of the structural properties of polymer materials, which is an indispensable key link for high-performance and multifunctional applications

Dr. Zhang Panpan from Zhejiang University of Technology stated that the team has innovatively developed a new synthesis method that solves the problems of uncontrollable molecular weight, multiple side reactions, few types of polymerization monomers, and harsh reaction conditions caused by the easy termination of traditional four synthesis methods. The polymer has a molecular weight of over 1 million and excellent mechanical properties such as tensile resistance, tear resistance, and impact resistance. The Phase I and Phase II of the Chemical New Materials Park in Pinghu District, Jiaxing City, which use this technology, have an annual production of 5000 tons of methyl methacrylate (PMMA) expanded microspheres and 2500 tons of PAN porous microspheres, and have been trial produced by the end of 2022.
